Smashcast & History of Jazz iPad app

Smashcast & History of Jazz iPad app

Smashcast had an opportunity to meet 955 Dreams, a mobile app development company supported by Kapor Capital, to test out their new History of Jazz app for the Apple iPad. The app provided an interactive lesson on Jazz History, Black History, and iPad app development.

Mitchell Kapor Foundation 2010 Annual Report

Mitchell Kapor Foundation 2010 Annual Report

This year, the Mitchell Kapor Foundationd decided to do something a little different for their annual report— they did a video shoot. These days, most nonprofits go paperless for their annual reports, creating PDFs and simply e-amilng them to their contacts. But the folks over at the Kapor Foundation wanted to do something more engaging with a little more personality, so they all did their part to report the yearly financials in front of the green screen.

Kapor Center Postcard Flyers

Kapor Center Postcard Flyers

After we got the It's Time murals up on the walls of the Kapor Center, we figured it would make sense to let the large scale murals make their ways into the hands of others in the community. As a result, we created simple 4x6 postcards that we put around the office, leave at events, and hand out at conferences.

Kapor Center Speaker Series: Rodolfo Mendoza

Kapor Center Speaker Series: Rodolfo Mendoza

We host a monthly lunchtime speaker series here at the Kapor Center. December's luncheon featured Rodolfo Mendoza Denton, who is an associate professor of Psychology at UC Berkeley and studies stigma and its implications for education. He spoke to the Kapor Center about the ways feelings of inclusion and belonging affect academic performance and the decisions that minority students make about their professional trajectories.

Milton Glaser: To Inform and Delight

Milton Glaser: To Inform and Delight

I stumbled across this movie by Arthouse Films while watching movies on Netflix, and was particularly attracted to the cover image. Turns out that it's a famous Bob Dylan album cover (which I didn't know), and turns out that the cover was designed by Milton Glaser, who also designed the I ♥ NY image.

Kapor Center Website

Kapor Center Website

There is more and more activity surrounding the development of The Kapor Center in Oakland, so we wanted to create a simple web presence for our soon-to-be home. The goal was to create a relatively simple "starter site" that could provide information on activities transpiring at both our current location and our future Oakland location.

Smashcast on Jazz Music

Smashcast on Jazz Music

I decided to create this video of the Smashcasters talking about Jazz music as part of an exploratory project that I'm doing with one of the Kapor Capital portfolio companies. The goal was simply to get the students to share their candid feelings on Jazz music.

Mind Mapping with Xmind

Mind Mapping with Xmind

We recently used Xmind to create a series of mindmaps to capture and document discussions at the 2010 What Works! conference sponsored by Mitchell Kapor Foundation. Mindmapping is a great tool to use for brainstorming and planning, but in this case, we used it for notetaking and graphic faciliation.

Kapor Center Welcome

Welcome to the Kapor Center

There are so many activities going on within the San Francisco Kapor Center, that it's often hard for our guests and visitors to really get a full view of all that we do here. To this end, we created this quick 60sec motion graphics sequence to explain our work and our family of organizations. The goal was to create something that functions similar to the videos screened in movie theaters just before the feature presentation... "Shh, no talking... Please, quiet your mobile phones".

Why Does Fairness Matter to You?

Fairness Matters Gala

Level Playing Field Institute hosted its annual Fairness Matters Gala at the San Francisco City Club and asked if the Smashcasters could come out and conduct video interviews with event attendees, asking the question, "Why Does Fairness Matter To You?" The video was then edited, posted online, and sent out to all of the guests two days a later as a post-event Thank You.
