Level Playing Field Institute Website

Level Playing Field Institute (LPFI) increases fairness in education and the workplace by closing the opportunity gap and removing barriers to success. Taking over the site from previous developers, we had done iterative changes over the past few years but not substantially changing its look. With each iteration and change in the organization the site slowly started to creep in different directions as their programs changed and the voice with which they described those programs had also changed. So instead of continuing to iterate on what they had, LPFI decided they needed a fresh start with both the look of the site and its architecture.

LPFI wanted make it easier to enter content and also make it easier for those additions to be seen by visitors.  They also wanted to add blogs and prep the site to have better integration into services like twitter and facebook.  Lastly, they wanted leverage their large multimedia library and distribute links to their videos, photos and documents throughout the site. We chose Drupal to serve as their content management system because it was capable of doing everything that they wanted above and allowed them to edit the site from a web interface, eliminating the restriction to updating from a few computers that had the right software.  The new CMS enabled their site editors to connect relevent content to other similar posts (more visibility) and even connect added videos and photos which could also be posted independently by editors.

For the redesign we looked at their site traffic and saw very different user paths leading to different end pages.  A page would be more active at different times through out the year and the paths to those pages were very direct.   We decided to use audience specific landing pages for each of the main programs which allowed LPFI to better serve those audiences the content they were looking for but also tie in other parts of the site to keep them longer.
